TRENTECOSTA Mary Ann Berlier Trentecosta, age 77, drowned on August 29, 2005 in her Chalmette, Louisiana home as she lay down for a nap around 9:30a.m. after the brunt of Katrina's wind and storm activities. Within 30 minutes a wall of water engulfed her home taking the life of one of the most healthy and vibrant women on earth. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Julia Pereira Berlier, and her husband Vincent Charles (Charlie) Trentecosta, and is survived by daughter Charlene, sons Guy and Mark, granddaughters Kristyn, Lindsay and Marcy, great-grandsons Kyle and since born Kayne, and countless friends and family members who still cannot believe she is gone. Mary Ann was born in New Orleans, raised in the Lower 9th Ward, worked as a clerk/typist for the Navy in World War II and after her 1947 marriage became a full-time mom and homemaker as a resident of Chalmette. With her innate flair for fashion she later operated her women's clothing store, Purrfect Fashions, but over the last two decades she was a commercial business owner in St Bernard Parish renting space to Pancho's and other local businesses. Vivacious and full of life Mary Ann adored Mardi Gras and so enjoyed the excitement of her float-riding years with the Krewe of Pandora. She looked forward to monthly luncheons and class reunions with her 1945 Maumus High School graduates who have remained close over the years. Mary Ann was a positive, energetic person always inspiring others to have fun and to see the bright side of every situation. She was strong-willed but a thoughtful woman, a doer of good deeds, one of the least envious humans of her day. She loved to dance, bargain shop, frequent the French Quarter, decorate for holidays, play roulette, fly to Vegas and had a lifelong affection for cats. She had become quite the amateur photographer for all events and her faithfully sent pictures are the reason everyone involved has these memories documented. Mary Ann also enjoyed clipping articles and mailing them to friends and family of whom they reminded her. Her recently purchased and renovated home gave her great happiness as did her love for gardening having inspired a yard resembling a rainforest. Her greatest pride was not just being a Mommie, but being a Grammie and Great-Grammie which filled her heart with love and joy. Mary Ann was a very privately spiritual woman who had no fear of leaving this life but awaited the journey of soaring to gardens far, deep and wide watching over each of us, never leaving our side. She was the kind of person you do not forget, and never will. A special thanks to the chaplains of the Victim Relief Ministries whose donated time of love and concern were immeasurable to those of us who lost our loved ones in Katrina. A memorial donation may be made in honor of Mary Ann's life to Victim Relief, 5351 Catron, Dallas, TX 75227 or jitterbug to Fats Domino! Mary Ann's cremains were buried over her mother's grave site at the Garden of Memories in Metairie, LA where a private celebration of her life was held on December 7, 2005. Please view and share memories in the family and memorial guest books on line at www.legacy.com and www.KatrinaMemorials.com. - submitted: 9/10/2006 9:06:26 AM

MOM, OH MOM, HOW I MISS YOU! OUR VISITS, OUR TALKS, OUR CARDS AND NOTES IN THE MAIL TO ONE ANOTHER, YOUR VOICE ON MY ANSWERING MACHINE WITH CUTE MESSAGES WHEN I MISSED YOUR CALLS~~ALL OF WHICH WE SOMETIMES TOOK FOR GRANTED THROUGHOUT OUR LIFETIME TOGETHER. IT'S SO HARD TO BELIEVE THAT YOU WERE TAKEN AWAY FROM ME SEEMINGLY IN A HEARTBEAT. I HAD JUST TALKED WITH YOU... MY HEALTHY, SPUNKY, YOUNG SPIRITED MOTHER AND NOT 30 MINUTES LATER YOU WERE GONE AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT. I KEPT POSITIVE THOUGHTS OF YOUR RESCUE FOR WEEKS UNTIL WE RECEIVED THE NEWS FROM "A FRIEND ON THE INSIDE" ABOUT THE SYMBOLS ON YOUR HOME. IT WAS ALL TRULY LIKE A HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE. MY BEAUTIFUL, MOTHER, I AM STILL DOING MY BEST TO TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING WITH WHICH YOU ENTRUSTED ME, BUT THESE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE FAR FROM NORMAL. I KNOW YOU UNDERSTAND AND ARE STILL GUIDING ME FROM THE OTHER SIDE~~I CAN FEEL YOU AND I THANK YOU. PLEASE KNOW THAT THERE WILL NEVER BE A DAY THAT GOES BY THAT I DON'T THINK OF YOU. I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL THAT YOU WERE MY MOM. YOU ARE ALWAYS IN MY HEART. YOUR ONLY DAUGHTER, CHARLENE - submitted: 9/16/2006 4:10:28 PM

Ms. Mary Ann's energy and enthusiasm was an inspiration to me. One of my fondest memories was going to Hoggs and learning to line dance with her. Not long before her death we ran into her at the Chalmette Cinema and she invited us back to her house. We toured her garden that she so loved and she gleamed about her house. She was so proud of her family and I will always be appreciative that she introduced my parents! Without Ms. Mary Ann, I might not even exist. Ms. Mary Ann... I'll see you in heaven and please be sure there is good music for dancing. Patty Campiere Seal (Atlanta) - submitted: 10/1/2006 7:23:05 AM
